Cooking on Extended Benefits: The Unemployed Cookbook 1983 Monongahela, Pennsylvania (also known as Mon City)
The cover has a couple toasting empty plates on a table spread with a white tablecloth and set for dinner with candles overlooking the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry Office of Employment Security with what looks to be a steel mill superimposed in the background.

This book was to help support unemployed steel workers of the United Steel Workers Association. The dedication outlines the efforts over the last year to help their community. I found an interesting 1982 article describing the area this book is from and the changes in steelworking, mill shutdowns and their effects on the community.

The book has a wide variety of recipes with named contributors. There is a wild game chapter with several grouse recipes, a canning chapter (I do not vouch for the safety of these recipes! They do not follow current canning guidelines! Do not poison yourself or loved ones!), and a “beverages and sandwiches” section with basic illustrations on the dividers. The recipes are largely thrifty and hearty classics with relatively few convenience ingredients called for.
