Lioness Hospitality’s “Kissin’ Don’t Last, Cookin’ Do” compiled by the Hagerstown Lioness Club of Hagerstown, Maryland first edition 1980, second edition 1981 (also includes a 1984 inscription by Doris and Bill K to Marge).

This is a hefty cookbook. There are a lot of odd poems and quotes in the beginning and “handy guides” at the end but there are also many, many recipes–just under 350 pages’ worth. The book also has a great index that not only breaks the recipes down by ingredient but by holiday. There are a lot of holidays too! You are covered from any Johnny Appleseed needs to Moon Day(?) to Passover, April Fool’s Day, and St Patrick’s Day.

Recipes, all with named contributors, include fastnachts, ham balls in sour cream gravy, sauerkraut salad, dandelion and “always drive in” slaw. There are also some “recipes” for things like planting a pineapple top and some crafts. No real illustrations. There is also a “tribute to New Zealand” section with a lot of kiwi recipes that I would love to know more about.
