Out of This World Cookbook II by Cocoa Beach Woman’s Club 1985
The book opens with a forward outlining how it’s been 12 years since their first cookbook so for the twentieth anniversary of the Cocoa Beach Woman’s Club and the sixtieth for Cocoa Beach itself, they decided to compile a sequel. Their goal was for the proceeds to fund building a community center in Cocoa Beach. Cocoa Beach is gateway to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and home to the Florida Surf Museum.
They describe the book as ” out-of-this-world recipes for down-to-earth people and down-to-earth recipes by out-of-this-world people” with contributions by astronauts, government workers, and space VIPs.
My copy had a price tag of $8.95 which seemed a little steep for 1985! I guess it was a souvenir.
The recipes are pretty straightforward and most don’t have head notes or tips but occasionally there will be a subtitle like for Congressman and Mrs. Bill Nelson of Florida’s Taco Salad “A great way to get children to eat vegetables!” and Janet Uhrmann Husband, Assistant Personnel Director of Operations, KSC’s Real Italian Spaghetti and Meatballs (great for lasagna, also).
All of the recipes have named contributors and a few have their connection to Cocoa Beach or the space program listed or political appointment.
The section sheets themselves are plain but they have some clever titles like ‘G”astromonical” Grains, Dairy Foods or “Satellite Salads, Soups, and Vegetables”. There are some sketches of what must be familiar sights in Cocoa Beach like surfing and fishing scattered throughout the text.
