Cape May Fare: A Collection of Recipes from Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts 1987 Cape May, New Jersey
The funds from this cookbook went toward the ongoing restoration of the 1879 Physick Estate and its grounds. A note on the copyright page states that the recipe directions, ingredients, and instructions were tested and edited but to feel free to test them yourself.
The dividers have illustrations and blurbs of the famous “gingerbread” houses that are all over this popular beachside town.
The recipes all have named contributors and range from Sue Leaming’s Cape May Coleslaw that she adapted for the microwave(!) to Denise Heckel’s Seafood Rarebit Souffle and KC Bennett’s Beach Plum Jelly which gives instructions on not only where to find the beach plums in Cape May but how best to process and preserve them. A few contributions are from businesses around the town.
The index is unusually complete and easy to cross reference by ingredients! Very helpful for such a large cookbook.
