Favorite Recipes From Our Best Cooks complied by the Philadelphia chapter of Jack and Jill of America 1979
Jack and Jill of America is a leadership organization that was founded in Washington DC in 1938. African American mothers founded it with the goal of bringing kids together in a social and cultural setting. It is still in existence today and there are chapters across the country.
The recipes seem to be largely from adults involved in the organization but there are a few by children– Christian Jones (age 11) contributed a recipe for Taber Treat which involved 4 frozen waffles, chocolate ice cream, miniature marshmallows, and chocolate syrup.
The contributors are all named but there are only stock photos in the book and no real personalization. Many, many pages of stock info about meal planning, calories, baking tips etc.
That said, there are a ton of recipes and they are quite varied. There is everything from Traxsene Bowser’s Escabeche to Dorothy Nix’s Filets of Sole Veronique to Berry Cloverdale’s Pickled Pig’s Feet to Catherine Brown’s Sour Cream Pie.
There are a large number of dishes using eggs in the book.
