The Chestertown Bank of Maryland Tastes You Can Bank On Volume II undated
This book was put out by the Chestertown Bank after the success of their first cookbook. It was to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The forward says that workers spend more time with coworkers than their actual families and hopefully become part of a work family and that one of the hallmarks of a family is cooking and sharing recipes. It also thanks associates for volunteering to type up the recipes.
This copy had a note from “Mom” to “Steve” suggesting he will like some of these recipes written on the cardboard cover.
The recipes were contributed by employees of various branches and departments of the bank and are identified by name and their occupation and often branch location, and a few have their connection to another person listed which I guess was their connection to the bank. There are more men contributors than I’ve found in most community cookbooks (Don’s Devils Food Cake was contributed by Donald J. Greene a teller at the Galena Office).
There was the usual variety of recipes from casseroles to desserts. Very minimal illustrations.
There are some recipes I would have liked some more details on like Mikees (Peanut Butter Cookies) by Marta McClain, Payroll/Benefits Coordinator) which look like a fairly typical peanut butter cookie but with an unusual name I can’t find elsewhere. Are Jumbo Candy & Nut Cookies (Patti Hopkins, sister of Nancy Greenwood) named that because they have peanuts as a reference to Jumbo the Elephant?
