Country Cookbook Sagebrush Round-up compiled by Country Music Association of WV, Inc 1993
There was no info about the book, the organization or who benefited from the sale. The organization still maintains an address so may well still be in existence. I tagged the town and county assuming it hasn’t moved since the nineties.
The recipes leaned towards the easy and thrifty.
There were also a good number of regional dishes and game recipes along with a healthy amount of congealed salad.
Sue Newbauer contributed several recipes that called for “jars” of deer meat and I wish there were some head notes for that! My guess is she home canned venison but is it possible that it was available commercially?
Ruby Page contributed some recipes for making homemade salami and bologna out of beef or venison.
Delores Fast’s recipe for Chipped Ham Bar-B-Q stood out because I think of it as a Pittsburgh food but I’ve seen on old school menus in West Virginia as well.
Velma (Lake) Conner included a recipe that could be bread or that West Virginian classic, pepperoni rolls. Another WV classic, raised buckwheat cakes was contributed by Amy R. Slater. Hot dog sauce also made an appearance.
I saw a measurement I haven’t seen before—butter the size of a hickory nut!
