This book opens with a history of the convent about how the nuns helped “little female orphans” and the survivors of “Indian massacres” and had special classes for “Negro and Indian girls” to learn reading, writing and the care of silkworms and making of silk fabrics as well as an academy for “the daughters of wealthy plantation owners” and hospital work.
There are illustrations and other stories of the place including the large herb garden and some culinary tales. Each section has a history of the course.
