Invite Me Again compiled by members and friends of the Stark County Medical Society Auxiliary 1979
This cookbook boasts that all recipes are “kitchen tested”. They credit Mary Gibbons with the artwork and calligraphy.
There is an overview of the history of the Auxiliary dating back 50 years. Their goal for the cookbook is to use the proceeds to equip a turn-of-the-century doctor’s office in the Historical Society.
I have to admit, the handwritten cookbooks are some of my favorites. I like it best when it appears to be in the contributor’s own handwriting but I will take any handwriting. It just feels so cozy and personal. I also love the cover of this book. It almost feels as spooky and demanding as it feels welcoming. 10/10.
The book has quite a wide variety of recipes. The chapters include not only the usual seafood, desserts, and breads but “International”, “Men’s Specialties” and “Microwave”.
A number of recipes credit sources or include some helpful hints about the yield, what to serve it with, or how it tastes.
Mrs. H.N. Topcuoglu (Barbara), Canton, Ohio’s Tepsi Borek includes a helpful tip to buy “strudel leaves” at a Greek delicatessen.
Mark G. Herbst MD, Canton, Ohio shares Mark’s Eastern Shore Oyster Stew (An old Baltimore favorite) in the Men’s section.
There are a lot of “international” recipes as well–everything from stuffed grapes leaves to chapati and chile rellenos. It really is a book I can see making a lot of recipes out of!
Major index issues though! Rhubarb cake appears under “Poultry” and there is a lot of beef in the “Desserts” section.
