Cook Book A Book of Favorite Recipes (Morrow County Hospital Auxiliary) Mt Gilead Ohio 1979
I have two books put out by two different groups with the same cover and the same generic tips in the first section. It must have been a popular choice! Other books will have the same stock images but at first glance these are really identical down to the cover.
The recipes all have named contributors and sometimes the names have a mysterious phrase after them like “Silver Twig” or “Blue Twig” and I’d love to know what that means. One or two recipes, like End of Garden Salad are attributed to “A Friend”.
This book has a lot of wild temperature takes on food. There is a recipe for frozen coleslaw (Esther Smith, Silver Twig) that I am truly fascinated by. I have seen recipes for this more than once and I am always amazed that someone thought it was necessary to freeze coleslaw. Is it better frozen somehow? Virigina Deffinger, White Twig also contributed Frozen Cole Slaw and hers has mango! Ruth Main contributed a Icebox Macaroni Salad.
On the other extreme, Evelyn Lang contributed a Hot Slaw (with eggs and optional heavy cream) that really caught my eye. Pauline Robinson shared Hot Chicken Salad.
Lots of sauerkraut recipes from salad to mixed with barbecue sauce and ground beef.
Good variety of baked goods including Maxine Earley’s Maple-Nut Coffee Twist and a very heavily marked up by a previous owner recipe for Banana Nut Bread (Mabel Chipps, Blue Twig) which much needed some corrections–there is no way that bread was baking in 15-20 minutes! The same person dated recipes they made which was fun to come across. She was cooking from this book from the early eighties at least until 2014 when she made that Banana Nut Bread.
