Potluck Potpourri: Recipes from Wildwood, Wildwood Child Care Food Program Aspen, Colorado 1983
This is a rarity in that it is not spiral bound–just a regular paperback! The forward shares that the book is full of recipes from daycare providers. In 1982 they had a series of workshops (A Wildwood Social) and they requested everyone bring a potluck dish to share along with the recipe. These are those recipes. Over 200 of them! It might have been quite a potluck!
Some of the recipes do not have names and there is a note that some people did not include them with their submissions.
There is a healthy bent to some of the food and I bet they were told to bring healthy contributions to the event. There is a section about the dangers of junk food and some suggestions about serving the day care children “healthier” options. One was to serve cookies, brownies and bar cookies only twice a week and to never serve cake as cake has “too much sugar”.
There is quite a range of baked goods from muffins and bread to fruit-forward desserts. Jennie Gray’s Potica (Austrian Nut Bread) caught my eye–not sure if I’ve seen that before! Nor have I seen anything like Beth Abernathy and Marilyn Conlin’s Pinto Bean Muffins.
