Friendly Recipes from Baltimore Yearly Meeting’s Warrington Quarter of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) Carlisle, Gettysburg, Menallen, Warrington & York Meetings in Pennsylvania Frederick & Pipe Creek Meetings 1994
This title is a mouthful! It seems like this cookbook was put out by the umbrella group of a lot of smaller independent Meetings from Western Maryland and Pennsylvania. The funds from the cookbook sales were to be distributed among the chapters to spend as they wish.
The book includes a history and overview of what it means to be a Quaker and illustrated histories of the various meetinghouses on the dividers between the recipe sections.
There are a lot of quotes from famous thinkers and even a tea bag(!) scatted among the recipes.
The recipes are all by named contributors and some also credit the original inspiration or source (either an individual or other publication) for the recipe and that they made changes. That’s unusual for a community cookbook! Many recipes have notes about how they have served or made the dish in the past. It’s a very thoughtful cookbook!
Wide variety of recipes, including a good number of tofu dishes and regional dishes like shoofly cake.
