Bright Sun Biscuits (Old Bay Cheddar Drop Biscuits)
adapted and updated from Annie M. Large (Coven of the Rowan Star)'s recipe, Brigit's Bright Sun Biscuits appearing in A Cauldron of Delight: Favorite Recipes of the Assembly of the Sacred Wheel and Friends 2012
Ingredients
For the biscuits:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 4 tablespoons cold butter, grated
- ½ cup shredded extra sharp cheddar
- 1 ¼ cup buttermilk cold
- Pinch salt
For the topping:
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon Old Bay
- ¼ teaspoon granulated garlic
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450. Line a baking sheet with parchment. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and butter until it looks like wet sand.
- Add the cheese, buttermilk and salt and mix until a thick dough forms.
- Drop in 1/4 cup blobs onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.
- Meanwhile, melt butter and stir in seasoning. Brush over biscuits and serve hot.
